Oswald's Puzzle Palace

In some ways, the Oswald Project is far more interesting than the assassination itself of President John F Kennedy in Dallas' Dealey Plaza on November 22, 1963, for it reveals the real seat of government and the powers who control this nation.

As such, we may regard the work of John Armstrong as among the most important in the annals of assassination research, for it is he who has untangled the Oswald enigma, with all of its paradoxes, in ways which others have fallen far short of the mark. Even so, we believe that there are more prominent discoveries to be made concerning the Oswald Project. Some refinements in Armstrong's works have prompted us once again to consider the mycelium of the Oswald-CIA ecosystem.

James B Wilcott of the CIA testified before House Select Committee on Assassinations that there was an Oswald Project, code named RX-ZIM, for which he was a disbursement officer. He testified that Oswald's defection was fake. Armstrong marshals much evidence that Oswald had deep ties to the intelligence agencies of the US, and we believe to USSR and Mossad.

Before delving into that, a succinct summary of the Oswald configuration is as follows. There were two Oswalds, one of whom Armstrong designates as LEE and another as HARVEY. LEE is the natural son of Robert Edward Lee Oswald who died in 1939 two months prior to LEE's birth. HARVEY is presumed to be a Hungarian national who was brought to the US as part of post war intelligence activities.

LEE is the man who faded into the background as HARVEY assumed the persona of Lee Harvey Oswald. He is the one most Americans recognize as the (alleged) assassin of the president.

In addition to two Oswalds, there were two Oswald mothers. Marguerite Claverie married Robert, cited above, in 1933, resulting in two sons, one of which was LEE. Another mother, whom Armstrong calls a caretaker, but whom we would call a handler, assumed the persona of Mrs Oswald, the mother of the alleged assassin.

The physical characteristics of the two women are quite dissimilar, the real Marguerite being 5-7" taller, reasonably thin, and always attractively dressed. She was continuously employed, but her last known whereabouts reported by Armstrong end about 1960. It would be fascinating to learn of her end. However, Marguerite Oswalds' tax filings and Social Security records are classified. They will never be unclassified as they would reveal the two women.

Marguerite Claverie married for a short period Edwin Ekdahl  whom we have described in previous Chronicles, the most important point being our conclusion that he was involved in intelligence, something which Armstrong surmises in his website writings.

The Fake Marguerite was a short, corpulent, rather unattractive woman, of whom no good words had been said prior to the assassination. She is the one who garnered national attention in the wake of HARVEY's use as the patsy in the assassination of Kennedy. She died in 1981. She rarely worked, but was able to stay in nice places such as the Hotel Senator in New Orleans.

The beginning of the transition of the Oswald fusion began in earnest around 1947, the first year of CIA, and was done with the collaboration of the two women. The mysterious aspect is why Marguerite Claverie would relinquish her identity to someone who was probably a foreign national, and whom we believe worked for Israeli intelligence.

We believe that the formal transition of identity began when Marguerite Claverie Ekdahl purchased a small home at 101 San Saba in Benbrook, TX. She rented the house for the next 4 years, the most important tenant being the Fake Marguerite. So clearly the two Marguerites knew each other.

As for HARVEY and LEE, the former spent a limited time in the Marines, after whose introductory training he returned to civilian life working for Pfisterer Dental Laboratory before re-entering the Marines again. LEE, on the other hand, served continuously in the Marines until he was discharged after an arrest in March 1959. HARVEY was discharged in September 1959 at the pleadings of his mother who faked a work accident - the only reason she took a job for about 3 months.

LEE is seen again during the early 1960s running guns for Cuba with Jack Rubenstein, a conclusion we draw from a detail noted by Armstrong.

HARVEY constantly espoused Communist-Marxist ideals, often at the expense of friendships or social comity. He spoke fluent Russian which comports well with the assumption that he was born outside of the US, most likely central Europe. LEE had no such interests. Many contend that HARVEY was simply developing his legend in support of his clandestine intelligence operations. We disagree. 

Armstrong reports of HARVEY's brief stay in North Dakota where he brags to William Timmer, "He told my son He had a calling to kill a President" according to his mother Alma Cole in a letter to Lyndon Johnson in December 1963. This is too intense a conversation to have with a play mate at 14 or so years of age. To me, it appears to be a doctrinaire statement founded upon visceral belief rather than as pretense.

Not only did the two mothers know about the Oswald Project, but so did Robert, Jr, the brother of LEE. In fact Robert stayed with the Fake Marguerite and HARVEY for a few months at 4936 Collinwood in Fort Worth starting in June, 1956. Armstrong documents the address with a bank account which Robert opened listing that address as his home.

Of course all of this leads to the question about why Marguerite Oswald would participate in such a project, for which we have no satisfactory answer. One could argue that it was for money, especially given the poverty in which Marguerite found herself after the death of her second husband, but this does not seem persuasive.

When HARVEY perpetrated his defection to the Soviet Union, with much support from CIA, State Department, US Navy, and other spook houses, he went to his adoptive country with no interest in learning or speaking Russian although he spoke only with Marina in English. (Clearly Oswald did not need to learn the language, but his faked disinterest discomfited many of his acquaintances.) Armstrong notes that he only ever spoke Russian with his alleged wife when he returned with her to the US in 1962.

Our view is that the Oswald Project was run by CIA Counter Intelligence Chief James Jesus Angleton. As we have noted in previous Chronicles, Angleton was a staunch Israeli agent, someone we believe was a double agent working for Mossad and with KGB. This explains Angleton's dispatch of Oswald to the USSR, his arranged elopement with Marina, and his disposal as radioactive goods as the patsy in the murder of the president.

The goal of the elaborate defection hoax was to provide a conduit through which Angleton could funnel US secrets and technology to Israel through the USSR and KGB. Today it is done directly.

Marina Substantiates Two Oswalds

Marina Oswald unwittingly supported the existence of 2 Lee Harvey Oswalds in describing her husband's background.

An interesting cache of letters written by Marina Oswald from 1962-63 to her aunt Valya and uncle Ilya surfaced in 1991 which reveals how she referred to Oswald's "mother" as his aunt because that is how HARVEY represented her to them when he married Marina in the Soviet Union in spring of 1962.

HARVEY Oswald is the version of Lee Harvey Oswald whom Marina married. He told her that he was an orphan. Peter Vronsky, who translated the letters, editorialized that HARVEY had lied about being an orphan. John Armstrong, the author of Harvey and Lee, suggested that HARVEY was born in Hungary and quite possibly an orphan. The fake Marguerite who took care of him was perhaps an aunt or some other surrogate mother.

In all fairness, Vronsky wrote before a deluge of JFK assassination research shed light on the Oswald Project, and other aspects of Marina and HARVEY. Nonetheless, it is Armstrong who correctly ascertained the relationship between HARVEY and his surrogate mother - or caretaker as he often states it - fake Marguerite.

When the Oswalds returned to Fort Worth, Marina met the surrogate mother and continued to refer to her as HARVEY's aunt to her aunt and uncle. We believe that fake Marguerite was indeed HARVEY's aunt who was involved in some kind of intelligence operation with CIA and possibly Soviet intelligence.

The significance of this revelation is that it substantiates the distinction between LEE whose mother was Marguerite Claverie, and HARVEY who was an orphan raised by an unknown caretaker using the name Marguerite - as Armstrong concluded from his studies.

Were There More Than 2 Oswalds?

We know that there was more than one Lee Harvey Oswalds. But does photographic evidence support more than two? We present some pictures to help answer the question.

1 - HARVEY 1963

The first picture below is Lee HARVEY Oswald's mug shot taken November 23, 1963, the day he was finally charged with the murder of J D Tippit and President John Kennedy. Although the police had no credible evidence for the arrest or charge, they were in the business of framing a patsy - justice be damned. This is the man John Armstrong identifies as HARVEY, and shows him at 24 years of age.

2 - HARVEY November 1959

The next picture is purported to be of HARVEY in the USSR shortly after his fake defection in October 1959. The picture was allegedly taken at the Metropole Hotel in Moscow in November.

This picture is probably the most flattering of HARVEY when he was 20 years old. We believe that there is strong enough resemblance between the first 2 pictures to reasonably conclude that they are the same man - HARVEY Oswald.

The third picture is allegedly that of HARVEY Oswald with Alexander Romanovich Ziger, a contact or friend with whom he spent much time while in Minsk. The picture dates from around 1960/61 when HARVEY was about 21 years old. This picture does not bear to us a close likeness of HARVEY, and may thus be someone else. However, we are not adamant on the point and could accept that this is HARVEY Oswald.

3 - HARVEY (?) 1960

The 4th photograph is allegedly of HARVEY in the USSR taken with Marina, his wife in front of him, whom we have cropped away. The picture would probably be summer 1961 since they are in short sleeves, and would be after their March wedding.

4 - Allegedly HARVEY 1961

We have much stronger objections to this being HARVEY than picture 3 for 3 basic reasons. The first is that eyebrows do not match. Secondly the forehead is quite flat although some might attribute that to lighting - something with which we disagree. The 3d and most important reason we deny that this is HARVEY is the hair and hairline. HARVEY would experience a dream come true if he could grow that much hair. In all other established pictures of HARVEY, he has concave hair recession around the temples, whereas this person's hairline is quite straight if not slightly convex. In general there is a resemblance but not a distinct likeness to the other HARVEY images.

This brings us to photo 5 which shows whom we believe to be LEE Oswald circa 1956 taken while he was on a Civil Air Patrol bivouac with, among other people, David Ferrie.

The picture would have been taken when LEE was around 17 years old and shows better physical development than HARVEY had. The hair, hairline, and smile look much more like the person in photograph 4. There seems to be way too much hair for this to be HARVEY.

5 - LEE at CAP c. 1956

The implications of these pictures are rather staggering for it would suggest that either the person pictured in photograph 5 is not LEE Oswald, or that if it is LEE Oswald, then he too would have been in the USSR with Marina - if in fact that cropped picture 4 is of Marina Oswald.

The other possibility is that the picture (4) was staged in the USA somehow. An interesting fact about HARVEY Oswald is that he had an IQ of 118 - or possibly 121, an IQ typical of Chief Executive Officers. The CAP is not an outfit which typically attracts young men in that intelligence bracket, but it would be attractive to LEE Oswald whose IQ was 103.

We are still trying to make sense of the photographs and the people in them. We expect our views to evolve as we give more thought to them, and uncover new ones. For now there is sufficient evidence to reinforce the 2 Oswalds scenario, and possibly a third - which brings to remembrance the famous 1940s song - The Third Man.

Where is Uncle Robert Oswald?

Ralph Cinque just published a fascinating snippet of information supporting the HARVEY and LEE theory which states that 2 different men using the same identity were operated by the same CIA who murdered President John F Kennedy on November 22, 1963 in Dallas' Dealey Plaza.

Cinque related a conversation he had with author John Armstrong who called Rachel Oswald years ago in order to secure an interview with Robert who was the brother of LEE Oswald. HARVEY Oswald is the man falsely accused of killing the President.

Rachel told Armstrong that neither she nor her sister June had ever heard from Robert Oswald - a very strange phenomenon considering that his alleged nieces had lost their father. Robert's complete disassociation with them is "smoking gun" proof that he was not a relative but merely another intelligence figure in the murky Oswald Project.

This episode reminded me of the surreal story Julian Lennon related about rarely seeing his father John. This was because Julian's father was the real John Lennon - not the fake who was allegedly shot by Mark David Chapman. Thus there was no reason for the fake John Lennon to have much interaction with Julian other than for publicity purposes.

This story is yet additional confirmation that HARVEY and LEE were CIA agents who were part of the Permindex-CIA against coup against the American government.

Who Was Ed Voebel?

Even seasoned JFK Murder researchers may not know any details about Ed Voebel, but he turns out to be very important to the Oswald Project in a negative way, and whose importance was such that the CIA murdered him.

Before proceeding, we must confess to an about face regarding Oswald doubles. Previously we had spurned the idea that there were 2 concurrent Oswalds managed by the same dark forces who murdered the president. We knew that there were Oswald impersonators, and that was enough for us. However, after prodding from an article by Ralph Cinque, we decided to explore the matter further, after which we are forced to conclude that John Armstrong's thesis of Harvey and Lee is much more compelling than we originally thought.

To keep the names clear, we will follow Armstrong's practice of referring to the American born Oswald as LEE, and the Hungarian born Oswald as HARVEY. Thus it was Voebel's fate to meet both of them. HARVEY is the man accused of murdering the president and J D Tippit.

Voebel met HARVEY first in 1954 when a piano fell on HARVEY's legs at school. He survived the ordeal and the two became playmates for the spring. A few months later, Voebel befriended LEE after his rockem sockem fight with Johnny and Mike Neumeyer in the fall while in 9th grade at Beauregard Junior High School in New Orleans.

LEE lost a tooth in that fight, after which Voebel and 2 friends helped LEE clean up. Following the fight, Voebel took a picture of LEE in the class room which eventually became plastered around the nation when Life magazine published it in 1964. The picture clearly shows LEE missing a front upper tooth thanks to the fight.

In 1971, Ed Voebel became mildly ill, but went to the Oschner clinic for treatment, a mistake which would cost him his life. Someone, perhaps Oschner himself, murdered Voebel at age 31 just as he murdered Dr Mary Sherman in a most gruesome fashion in 1964.

Oschner was a long time CIA operative who was heavily involved in the conspiracy to murder President Kennedy on November 22, 1963 in Dallas' Dealey Plaza. One of Oschner's projects for the CIA was the invention of a cancer weapon which was highly lethal, and was ostensibly targeted against Fidel Castro.

The reason for murdering Voebel was that he knew too much about LEE and HARVEY Oswald, knowledge which the CIA could not afford to let propagate since it would expose Allen Dulles' lies about HARVEY and implicate the agency directly in the murder of the president.

The evidence of the missing tooth is highly important in securing the thesis of 2 Oswalds. HARVEY Oswald was exhumed and extensively photographed in 1981, and positively identified based upon his dental records. HARVEY had all of his teeth, proving that he was not LEE, and that LEE was indeed a separate and distinct person from HARVEY.

We do not know what became of LEE Oswald - he may in fact still be alive. His brother Robert, still alive as of this writing, may be the last person to know the fate of his brother. But if he values the few remaining years of his life, he will go to his grave with his secrets.

Harvey and Lee Bunk

We reported not too long ago that the Harvey and Lee theory of William Armstrong suffered some damage when we learned from Judyth Baker that many of the alleged discrepancies in the so-called Lee and Harvey profiles were misunderstandings or contrivances of myth. We go a step further by calling the entire thesis pure bunk.

 

As veteran researchers of Lee Oswald may know, Armstrong has presented a series of ostensibly baffling paradoxes in the Oswald history in his Bugliosi length tome purporting that they can only be resolved by the introduction of two separate persons, one named Lee who is the phantom Oswald, and Harvey who is the public Oswald who was shot on national television on November 24, 1963 when the Dallas Police Department arranged for his murder.

 

The theory further states that the discrepancies in Oswald's biography began as early as kindergarten and persisted all the way until his death. Examples of the anomalies include school attendance records, military records, photographs, various sightings, linguistic capabilities, and others. So where is Occam when you need him?

 

One interesting example concerns his teachers who would sometimes identify Oswald as Lee and sometimes as Harvey. Lee despised his middle name Harvey, which in turn caused the kids at school to taunt him with it, which frequently led to fist fights. Because they could easily yank his chain, his classmates would frequently call him Harvey, causing the teachers to think that his first name was Harvey. So rather than Harvey and Lee there is only Lee Harvey - one and the same person.

 

Baker, with a degree in anthropology, has noted from physical characteristics that many alleged Harvey and Lee photos are indeed the same man - Lee Oswald.

 

To further complicate matters, Lee told Judyth that he knew he was being impersonated after his return to the United States, and in some cases approved of it since these sightings of him protected him or helped his intelligence activities.

 

The trip to Mexico City in September 1963 is often presented as the archetypal paradox demonstrating 2 Oswald's. Although Photoshop had not been invented yet, its principles were at work, such as when Lee was shown coming into the US embassy.

 

While there was an Oswald impersonator connected to the Mexico City trip, it does not prove the life long existence of Harvey and Lee as in a bad DC Comics adventure of heroes and anti-heroes in multiple parallel universes.

There was also the Oswald imposter in the Texas Theater, a certain Roscoe White who confessed on his death bed to his pastor that he killed several people as assignments given to him, most likely from the CIA. This is the man whom we believe murdered J D Tippit. Again, the presence of Oswald imposters does not prove or require the existence of Harvey and Lee.

 

What is more interesting is Armstrong's background with US Army intelligence. Although we cannot  dogmatically assert guilt by association, we can suggest that Armstrong may have introduced poisonous information into the Assassination pool as a way of perpetuating confusion. The fact that the Sixth Floor Museum carries his book is sufficient evidence for us that Armstrong is at best mistaken, and more likely a disruption agent.

 

Our biggest question is, Where is Armstrong's Lee? Did he die when Harvey was shot? The main reason for the Harvey and Lee hoax is to erase the memory of Oswald so that the truth of the Kennedy murder can remain perpetually buried.

Harvey and Lee Theory Thrown in Doubt

The famous Harvey and Lee story positing the existence of two persons assuming the identity of Lee Harvey Oswald was dealt a serious blow by Judyth Vary Baker in an interview with Jim Fetzer.

 

The Harvey and Lee theory was advanced by John Armstrong who noticed numerous inconsistencies in the appearances, actions, and sightings of the man we know as Lee Harvey Oswald, especially in relationship to biographical material. To resolve the discrepancies in the biography of Oswald, Armstrong posits that there were indeed at least 2 different men who impersonated the same character in order to account for the numerous anomalies in the Oswald story. To distinguish the 2 characters, he calls one Harvey and the other Lee.

 

Baker told Fetzer in 2010 that Lee Oswald had numerous distinct characteristics which she knew quite intimately and that allow her to know that in many cases that the man we see in the photographs was Lee Oswald. One such characteristic is his eye color which said had an outer ring of brown with the remainder hazel/blue color.

 

She also said that many of the photos, especially those taken after his arrest were altered to place a smirk on his face by drawing in Joker lines at the edge of his lips. She said that he knew the seriousness of his situation and that smirking or laughing would not have helped his cause.

 

Baker revealed that many photos had been "copied and pasted," so to speak, that loss of detail and fidelity to Lee had been lost.

 

While we have provided incontrovertible proof that Roscoe White did indeed impersonate Oswald in the backyard photos of "Oswald" holding a rifle, these latest revelations from Baker, who knew Oswald quite intimately, suggests that the deception was not nearly as advanced as told by Armstrong.

On the other hand, in a different interview, she acknowledged that Oswald knew that he was being impersonated and that it didn't really bother him.

 

So while Oswald was impersonated from 1959 onward, the impersonation may not extend into his life going back to early childhood. The case for caution has certainly been made by Baker's inside knowledge of Oswald.
